Of late, this blog has been receiving mails from persons claiming to represent Swami Paramarthananda demanding that this blog remove all discourses of Swamiji presently placed here. Placing this issue before you for your valued opinions, the links to Swamiji’s discourses in this blog will temporarily be disabled.
In this day and age of internet, I wonder how this blog can be accused of copyright violation. As you all know, discourses by Swamiji (and, others) are available in dozens of websites, blogs and forums spread across the Net. I had (and, continue to have) the great fortune to listen to Swamiji’s many discourses downloaded from the Net since the past three years. As the collection of discourses by Swamiji and other jnanis grew, I thought of sharing this wealth with other spiritual seekers by placing these in easy categories in a blog. That’s all.
A great jnani as he is, Swami Paramarthananda repeatedly says in his upanyasas that as a Guru , he feels it is his duty to teach and share his spiritual knowledge and that he enjoys it. And, for spiritual seekers spread across the globe who do not have any resources other than the Net to access these treasures, is it Inappropriate to share these and help each other in their spiritual pursuits?
Please let us know your thoughts. The decision to continue to keep Swamiji’s discourses in this blog or not will be yours.

I fully agree with all the views expressing that swamiji’s lectures should be made available. I am sure Swamiji will be too happy to make them public because the main aim is to make every one of us interested in the subject to understand our sanadana Dharma and through this we could explain to our children the treasure house of our spiritual texts.

The spiritual knowledge is not a proprieitory item. So I feel we should all discourses irrespective of personality unless the concerned is not money minded.

I feel you are doing a great service. In my humble opinion, there can not any copy right issues on all bhashyams, upanyasams, lectures etc. on sacred texts. All original authors and rishis (seers) have given them to the world without any copy right.
Many like me, do not even know the right source, the correct teacher appropriate to each one’s level of development etc. Even after going through many search in the real world as well as the web world we may or may not find the appropriate source.
Your blog at least gives us an intro to a great variety of sources on sacred knowledge and bhakti.
For example, if we search for ” Mahabharata ” in the internet, we are listed with many options. Once we distill and listen to “our” teacher we again use the same medium to know more about teacher and do seek him in the real world and make the appropriate ” Guru Vandanam ” Good old days the search was different. In today’s world, it is slightly different.
I have personally come to know of many “teachers” through the net, in turn find out where they are having an upanyasam next and go there to have the real experience. Obviously, nothing can replace listening to the teacher in person and learning the traditional way. Your blog helps that in big way. And you have no commercial agenda. Hence I do not think that there is anything to object.
There is only one issue. The Learnt say, vedas are to be learned directly from a Guru only and it should not be printed, mass produced and made available even to the appropriate sikshya before he is ready and makes a fervent appeal for the same. However, it is already mass produced, available widely on the net, magazines, books and this specific lectures are made available by the Pujya Swamiji himself in CD form. Sometime one find most inappropriate commentaries made available on the net, based on western authors publication which is many a time without any bhakthi or more appropriately Shraddha. Therefore there is an urgent need for a blog such as yours where we find a lot of gems grouped in place which will enable a real seeker to his teacher. Hence there can not be any objection from that point of view as well.
So please continue. This is a humble opinion of an uninitiated.
In the BG CDs set from him also, this file was not available. Therefore, I was searching for it. Maybe at the recording time of his lectures, it could not be recorded properly. !!
In Swami Paramarthananda’s Gita lectures, in Chapter 18, after,
218 Chapter 18, Verses 07 10, the next one available is 220 Chapter 18, Verses 13 15. Therefore his commentary No.219 Chapter 18, Verses 11 13 is missing. Is it possible to upload that and send me a confirmatory email. It would be a great help.

Swami Paramarthananda’s lectures are stunning brilliant and simple, I stumbled upon and since I have become addicted, I listen to his lectures 2 hours every day to-and-fro from office and they have been just amazing, infact I look forward to traffic because I can listen to his lectures more and in your car you are alone what better place.

I agree with this person whole-heartedly because this is rather my experience too. Since I am a housewife, I listen to him while cooking food, washing clothes and the like. Doing the daily chores seem to be no work at all while listening to Swamiji’s simple but true to the heart words.

All these swamiji’s are there to claim the copyright, but still there are temples where there is no oil/dress for teh deity’s still exists;
Some of my friends as a group is sending oil and supports many priests within Tamil Nadu;
Please make sure that the person who is asking you to shutdown is representing swamiji; There are so many others who doesn’t want the good things to happen that is Kaliyuga we cannot blame anyone;
Requesting you not to shutdown, instead whoever downloads can even provide an amount to swamiji online to make him or his subordinate happy;
Also a small request to all the Swamiji’s – Please help the poor people who are guided wrong and converted to other religions and they couldn’t come back and suffering; Any GuruPeet should be a place where valuable human beings should evolve and not money/material minded advocates/accounts should evolve;

Kindly keep uploading good divine lectures. If money alone is the concern, the noble beings whose lectures, you are uploading would not be giving such wonderful lectures at all.

Sumukamji you had done an excellent job. Sruthi & Smirithi has to be kearnt from Guru. But it is not possible now days. Hence many spiritual seekers are outside chennai & India. This site will be helpful. So kindly dont remove the discourse please. Especially spiritual seekers in Saudi Arabia & Gulf cant take CDs there, hence this blog will be useful.

You must continue please. Hindu thoughts must spread. Based on this, people will always pay voluntarily at whatever time they deem fit. There is no need to make money through “rights”.

I have seen other websites collect donations to provide the talks; some have already disappeared from the scene after the donations. We dont want to lose you.
I suggest each one of us, individually pay Guru Dakshina to Swamiji–however small it be–with purity in heart, utter humility, 100% sincerity spirit of reverence to our Swamiji by each of us whenever we like, individually to the Swamiji.
A periodic dakshina as I reiterate, could be as small as your heart and wallet permit, will be appropriate. Swamiji is God’s boon to understand our scriptures, our own Veda, and thus helps us identify our own SELF, to re-discover our inner self with all its strengths;

Please continue the good work and dont remove the blog, unless you have got some specific mandate from
swamiji to do so.However listeners can send some guru dakshina to swamiji, because no knowledge should be taken for free and the tradaition which Sri Swamiji follows does not insist on any dakshina, all contributions are totally voluntary.
I have been listening to Pujya Swamijis talks for over 5 years in the site http://www.vedantavidyartisangha.org. Here however only last 4 classes are avl….and I have also seen a note about the copy right..
Whether it is appropriate to have a copy right for such a teaching where any can can attend and also record in their recorders.
I am also attending classes at Bangalore of Swami Sadatmanandaji for over 7 years now…..who is from the same tradation and his talks are avl for all with http://www.arshavidyakendratrust.org….even Swami Dayanandaji talks are avl for free in the web site.
This site is a boon ….for any time old talks can be referred to…..and I suggest this may be taken up with Swami Paramarthanandaji directly for his views.

be considered by one and all:
1) I have seen many students record swamiji’s lectures
and even share them with other students. This shows
that swamiji himself may not object the spreading of
the vedic knowledge he is propagating.
2) Swamiji’s lectures are professionally recorded with
all care & pains, by Sastraprakasika Trust, which sells
Audio Tapes & CDs at very reasonable price. Therefore
if Sumukam has carried out the uploads from Tapes/CDs
purchased from Sastraprakasika, then necessary permission
need to be taken from them. If the uploads are done
from students’ personal recordings, then Sumukam can
make a strong appeal to downloaders to send GuruDakshina
to Swamiji.
3) Sumukam is rendering a great service in the field
of spirituality and their uploads of swamiji’s lectures
should be continued. For this purpose Sumukam can set
up a group of persons to help this out.

I certainly doubt these people who claim to represent Swamiji. I cannot believe that a great soul like him who has chosen to share his knowledge with other seekers would prevent the sharing of his discourses.
As you point out, his discourses are available elsewhere. I would support you in ignoring these people and continue to provide Swamiji’s discourses.

I am Swami Paramarthananda’s student for the last over 2 decades.I was made aware of this website recently and was thrilled to see SP’s talks made so easily available to the public. I live in the United States and do not visit India frequently. Websites like this one are quite often, the only means to access my Guru’s classes. Although I am personally in favor of the website, I would request the moderators of this website to present the question of propriety of its continuation to Pujya Swamiji himself and take appropriate action based on Swamiji’s advice.
SAIRAM. Namasthe. Your blog is NOT COMMERCIAL to derive any benefit for you. It is an appreciable free social service. Yet, it will be better to have a ‘No Objection’ from the copyright holders. This will avoid complications. This is my opinion.
hi. when mormans keep knocking on my door steps as they always do to spread the word of Jesus in Sydney; The only resource that has helped me to defend Sanathana Dharma are the talks by Swamiji. I’m sure Swamiji will have no objection to the content on the blog if he knew the real intention of this blog which is to spread the ultimate knowledge to people around the globe who are not as fortunate as the locals to attend his lectures. I wonder if Sankara in the eighth century would have made this a business instead of spreading the truth. When knowledge is to be imparted to the nook and corner of the world such copy-right control on these spiritual area is to be frowned. I am sure Swami Paramartha Nanda would not stoop to these low levels of controlling the spread of rare spiritual activities for money unless he is controlled by the self appointed managers of the institution. Such control only restricts the activities and hence the growth.

Spiritualism flows down traditionally, from time immemorial and all the Gurus are very happy to spread it all over this Universe without claiming any right.
Namaskarams. I have greatly benefitted from Swamiji’s lectures. And he has mentioned in one of the lectures that he has no objection in wide public getting the benefit. So u shdnt remove the blog.
If someone still persists, pl ask them to send it in writing and we will take it to Swamiji for his approval.
I live outside India but I dont mind coming to Chennai to meet Swamiji (and this will give me an opportunity to meet him) and resolve this issue. So, pl dont remove the lectures. Its a great service to humanity.

if there is no evidence for the claims that the requests came from the swamiji himself, someone might be trying to deceive you for fun or some other motive. Maybe it is just another rival of your blog or even that of sanathana dharma itself. I hope atleast devotion stays itself clear out of copyright, business and all other selfish acts.

I am having a mixed opinion.
First uploading a discourse without the consents of the owner of the copy right of course is not right but same time I will never come across Swamis discourse if it was not in your blog.
I think you should request to swami directly to get his opinion of spreading his teaching globally. I am in the opinion that this should spread globally as his teachings are very crisp, clear to the point and easy to understood by any ordinary spiritual seeker.

Giving accessibility to truth and sharing knowledge without hindrance is the greatest service anyone can do in one’s life. I do not understand the objections from whichever quarters it may be dissuading the continuance of this blog. Yes, any misuse has to be dealt with. But it is the misuser who is going to reap the “paapa” of the karma. Why should anyone else be worried?

My pranams to all. yes you should continue to keep swamiji’s speeaches in this blog. In olden days, Siddhi & finding the truth is kept as secret /otherwise they don’t know how to express. But now a days, as Lord Krishna’s words, God himself, come to Buloogam, to teach or preach the truth. As his words, like sri Paramarthanandha swami, sri Nochur venkatramanji has come to preach upanyasams to us and to make us to understand the truth. We can’t purchase the God and his blessings for us except his photos which we imagined. so one who involved in the spiritual line, they neednot be money minded.
If it is so, they are not involved themselves in aanmegam. In no classes, the above said swamijis are not prevent us to record their voices. If so why should we ask some sites to remove the upanyasams given by above swamijis. It is appropriate to share these and help each other in their spiritual ways.
I can specify another site to download their upanyasams. But i get fear that site may be troubled by the Good hearted people.
So, we shall help others to learn and turn to aanmegam or spiritual seekers. by adeyen sekar.

Understanding SRUTI and SMRITI needs to be backed up by SampradAya teaching.SampradAya teaching involves clarity in the area of fine prints of sAstra.One cannot conclude or say that he/she knows everything and the effort to know is a waste!
A human mind settles for accepting what is said but capable of raising enough doubts in time.
For a teacher who is a sAstra vid and a smpradAya vid there should be only support and no impediments caused in his pursuit.
Any alternative action may facilitate individuals all over the GLOBE to access.
